The Gospel of According to Mark

Class time: Sep 10 – Dec 3, Wednesday evenings, 7:45 – 8:30
Brief devotional starting at 7:30
Teacher: Jerrold Mathis
Location: Room 101

This Study of the Gospel of Mark will present to us Jesus Christ as a Servant and His Gospel, Authority, Power, Suffering, Zeal and Covenant. Mark reveals the fulfillment of the Old Testament promises of Yahweh coming to pardon – and to rule over – His people (Isaiah 40:1-11). Furthermore, Mark presents Jesus as the suffering Servant of the Lord and focuses on the deeds of Jesus more than His teaching, particularly emphasizing service and sacrifice. Mark does not present an account of Jesus ancestry and birth but begins where Jesus’ public ministry began, that being with His baptism by John the Baptist in the Wilderness. Mark demonstrated the humanity of Christ more clearly than of the other gospels, emphasizing Christ’s human emotions, His human limitations, and other small details that highlight the human side of the Son of God.
