Class time: Sep 4 – Nov 28, Wednesday evenings, 7:45 – 8:30
Brief devotional starting at 7:30
Teacher: Floyd Williamson
Location: Room 108
This class is the second half of a two-quarter class: Hebrews 6-13. The writer of Hebrews states his purpose for writing in Hebrews 13:22: “Brothers and sisters, I urge you to bear with my word of exhortation, for in fact I have written to you quite briefly.” The purpose of the book was to encourage all Christian readers about the superiority of God’s new covenant with His people though Jesus Christ. Hebrews is a book about the superiority of Jesus over the angels, prophets, and the priesthood. The author compares the old Jewish sacrificial system to the new superior covenant through Jesus Christ, which is far better and eternal. Some other topics in the book include: The deity and humanity of Jesus, the promised Sabbath rest, the much better testament, tabernacle, sacrifice, and faith.
